Terrorism Database Researcher

We are recruiting for a terrorism researcher and database manager to work in our busy Intelligence & Analysis department, taking the lead research role on our TerrorismTracker database and API. 

TerrorismTracker is Risk Adviory’s market-leading terrorism database and research project. It aims to record every terrorist attack in plot recorded in open sources since 2007 in a highly structured dataset for advanced analysis, with each record a definitive account.  Government, law-enforcement, military, global companies, NGOs and universities all use TerrorismTracker data 

This is an exceptional opportunity for a skilled and meticulous researcher with a deep interest and knowledge of terrorism, who has at least one year professional experience in research and database management. The role will include assisting with the coordination of a team of researchers to ensure that TerrorismTracker remains the most accurate and comprehensive terrorism database available.

 Required Qualifications:

  •  An undergraduate degree in international relations, terrorism studies or related subjects at a minimum upper second class or equivalent   

Required experience, competencies and skills:

  •  A minimum of one year professional experience on terrorism research, analysis of terrorism for private sector applications, and database management or structured dataset construction and usage.
  • MySQL database management for commercial or academic applications.

  • Ability to write up accurate research findings to a high professional standard in English in a high-paced environment.

  • Data analytics skills and practical experience using analytics and mapping software platforms. These might include Google platforms, Tableau and Carto.

  • Very strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Competence with business applications and CRM systems, such as Salesforce.

Advantageous experience, competencies and skills:

  • Master's degree in international relations, terrorism studies or related subjects.
  • Experience in a professional capacity of using relevant online platforms to monitor and analyse extremist messaging and propaganda, including navigating the deep/dark web and ZeroNet.

  • Knowledge of cyber security threats posed by terrorist and extremist groups.
